About our choir...

Ledbury Choral Society, formed in 1962, is a small, friendly group of over 50 dedicated singers.  We rehearse on Thursday evenings at the Baptist Church in The Homend from 7.30 to 9.30 pm. We present two major concerts a year, and often have other smaller engagements.

Typically our main concerts are:

  • We often hold a Come and Sing Event in January.
  • A concert around the beginning of November.
  • December carol concert in our lovely parish church of St Michael and All Angels. Always a highly successful event in the town.
  • April concert featuring a major choral work, often with orchestra, and also in St Michael's church
  • Summer concert often including varied works from the renaissance period to the modern day.

Our major choral concerts in recent years have included:

  • Chilcott Requiem with Monteverdi Beatus Vir and Handel O Come Let us Sing
  • Mendelssohn Elijah with Newent Choral Society
  • Elgar The Kingdom
  • Brahms German Requiem
  • Haydn Creation
  • Rutter Requiem
  • Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man
  • Mendelssohn Elijah
  • Orff Carmina Burana
  • Vivaldi Gloria
  • Fauré Requiem
  • Elgar The Music Makers
  • Bach Magnificat
  • Mozart Requiem
  • Handel Messiah
  • Dvorak Stabat Mater
  • Mozart Coronation Mass with Handel Utrecht Te Deum
  • Verdi Requiem
  • Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs

We join with Newent Choral Society and Bromyard Choral to perform larger scale works.  Many of our concerts, particularly carol concerts, have featured the talented concert brass band, Tarrington Brass.

The Choir is fortunate to have as its music director, Malcolm Macleod, an experienced choral singer and trainer and accomplished organist.

Phillip Holland, as accompanist for the Society, is a teacher of music and brings a wealth of experience to the society.  He is also an organist and Director of Music at St Michael's Church, Ledbury.

In addition, Kathryn Hindle acts as accompanist both for rehearsal and concerts, and has a successful career as a music teacher and pianist.
